JMB Homes was founded in 2008 by John M. Berger, a Maryland home builder with over 30 years of experience and a passion for creating high-quality, custom homes. From the start, John has taken a personal, hands-on approach — combining expert craftsmanship with clear communication and lasting customer relationships to make the building process smooth, transparent, and tailored to each family. JMB is truly a family business. John's son, Jake Berger, has been involved in some way since the very beginning — helping out on job sites and learning the business from a young age. After earning his engineering degree in 2019, Jake joined JMB Homes full-time. Today, he plays a key role in daily operations and project management, continuing the company's tradition of quality and personalized service. Behind the scenes, Sue Berger — John's wife and JMB's co-owner — supports the business through billing, marketing, and keeping operations running smoothly. Her work ensures that customers experience the same level of organization and care behind the scenes as they do throughout the building process.

John Berger brings over 42 years of home building experience in Maryland to every project at JMB Homes. With a lifelong passion for construction and a commitment to doing things the right way, John founded JMB homes in 2008 to offer families a more personalized, hands-on building experience. From site selection to final walkthrough, John is involved in every phase of the process, ensuring quality, communication, and customer satisfaction at everystep. His attention to detail and ability to tailor the building experience to each client’s unique needs are what set JMB Homes apart. When he is not on-site or working with clients, John enjoys spending time with his family - especially when it includes talking shop with his son and business partner, Jake.
Hands-On From Start to Finish
Jake Berger grew up around construction and has been involved with JMB Homes since day one — quite literally, as he started helping out at age 11. After earning his degree in engineering in 2019, he joined the company full-time, bringing fresh perspective, technical expertise, and a strong work ethic to the team. As Project Manager, Jake oversees daily operations, works directly with homeowners and subcontractors, and helps keep every build on track from start to finish. His background in engineering gives him a sharp eye for structure and detail, while his years of on-the-ground experience give him a deep understanding of what homeowners truly value. Jake is proud to continue building alongside his father, maintaining the family's commitment to craftsmanship, transparency, and personalized service.
